OHIO COUNTY FLOODPLAIN PROGRAM

The goal of the Ohio County Floodplain Program is to save lives and reduce property damage in the case of a flood. Ohio County has a Floodplain Building Permit Application for all construction and or development in the county, yes this includes repairs whether it is located in a Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) or not. The City of Wheeling and The Town of Triadelphia have their own Floodplain Administrators and do this permitting themselves. By having this permit program Ohio County is intending to save the residents thousands of dollars per year in Floodplain Insurance by moving new construction away from the SFHA if it is possible to do so. For those structures where it is not possible to move them outside of the SFHA they need to be built to the standards for structures within the SFHA, for existing structures within the SFHA if improvements or repairs that equal 50% or more of the value of the structure are made they need to be brought up the floodplain building standards. To apply for a Floodplain permit, click on the link to the left. Download the permit and fill out completely. Determine the fee for your project from the fee schedule that is also available on the left. Bring the completed permit application and a check made out to the Ohio County Commission for the fee to the floodplain manager at the address below.
